And the winner is...
The competition was ridiculously close and we had an extremely difficult time picking just one winner. Everyone here at Cinevate had a vote and after tallying the results we would like to announce the winner is ‘The Fire Rig’ by Michael Gebben and Charles Phillips from Alton, Illinois.
We would also like to congratulate everyone on producing some hilarious and very creative entries. All contest entrants will be receiving a swag package to show Cinevate’s appreciation for all your hard work. Thanks again to the entrants. You made this contest a lot of fun for all of us here at Cinevate.
The contest voting is over but you can still tell us which one you liked.

Just to clarify the definition of Recycle-
re⋅cy⋅cle [ree-sahy-kuhl] Show IPA verb, -cled, -cling, noun
–verb (used with object)
1. to treat or process (used or waste materials) so as to make suitable for reuse: recycling paper to save trees.
2. to alter or adapt for new use without changing the essential form or nature of: The old factory is being recycled as a theater.
3. to use again in the original form or with minimal alteration: The governor recycled some speeches from his early days.
4. to cause to pass through a cycle again: to recycle laundry through a washing machine.
–verb (used without object)
Just thought this would be helpful. :)

I think the ideas are creative, but I feel as if I read different instructions or something. I used things in the house and garage that would have otherwise been thrown away: empty deodorant, dried up markers, a broken oar, a sock with a hole in it etc. It took a lot of effort to come up with something like that and not waste anything. In fact, I am actually still shooting with the rig and it still seems to be holding up.
I will say however, that the fire one made me laugh very hard and that the cinematography on the sticks one was nice.

The watermelon rig made me laugh pretty hard with the GH1/mud reference. I loved the way it was set up too making it look all trendy like a real product promo, complete those "creative/clever" names that marketers love so much. It seems kind of dark though!
09 Sep 2009, 23:12
Jackson- I hear what you're saying. But as a guy on the food rig side that took great lengths to make as eco-friendly a rig as possible, I thought I should say that I doubt there's much waste going on here. Most food rigs were probably eaten after shooting...you can even hear sorlie munching in his video! Several of them look fairly functional too. I can't speak for the other guys, but it took me a long time to figure out what types of produce to use to get the stability and weight right without having to use any non-produce parts. You can see the result in my opening shot. I wouldn't shoot any weddings with a food rig though. ;)
Great work all around guys, lots of awesome ideas. I do want to see a hardcore infomercial-style entry though...hopefully we'll get it in the next batch.

Fire rig was crazy (in a good way), Twig rig was shot beautifully and Sorlie Arts/Andrew should host his own show. We should put together a Cinevate fan club. haha
Can anyone guess what film inspired our Rice Krispies rig??

We have a very tough job ahead of us, however the f/8 Summit Crew will be helping us out with their picks for the win too! The fact that every entry shows a combination of ingenuity, humor, style and well...joy, is really gratifying to see. Colletively, thousands of smiles are being delivered from this page and for that alone the Cinevate crew is very appreciate.
Good luck to all of the entries :-)
Cheers,
Dennis Wood

@Cinvate staff, thanks for hosting this contest though.
whats a swag package?
18 Sep 2009, 07:39
We're not sure exactly what the swag package will be just yet but it will probably include some cinevate merchandise.
18 Sep 2009, 18:20
I'm a little confused by the winner choice. Although they made a valiant effort, to me it was very obvious that these guys did not follow the guidelines of the contest rules. What food product or recycled product were they using? How was it made? Dumping premium fuel to feed a flame is not really eco friendly either??? What were they trying to say anyways. By the way I didn't see a mounted camera on the fire rig like all the others. I guess wearing a still motion t-shirt holds some weight though...
Disappointed to say the least.
