For our latest episode of Tracking Shots we’re extremely happy to bring back our old friend Vinny Minton. You may recognize Vinny as the pro inline-skater turned cinematographer, or maybe as the guy who shot the opening for an episode of House (on rollerblades with a 5D I might add). Besides House, Vinny’s shot stuff for CSI, the Life Network, the NFL Network, and a ton of other stuff through his company, Imperial Video Productions. For Vinny’s episode, we’ll actually be doing it in 2-parts, sharing the ‘Feeling Like A Giant‘ video below and a 2nd video shortly (teaser – it’s part of the ‘featured image’ of this post).
The second video showcases the titular ‘Race Cars’ clip we hinted at. Shot along with Studio Mountain, Vinny Camera Operated to contribute to the ISG Track Shoot featuring the GTR & GS300. A lot of the movement in the video comes from the cars themselves but if you pay close attention you’ll notice some Atlas 30 dollies in there.
Vinny pointed us to these BTS pics from the shoot, photo credit for the lot to Dobson Photography.
The first piece is the Feeling Like A Giant music video by Ashkon featuring Bailey. Under Matt Straus and Jason Cohn’s direction, Vinny operated the A Camera for the shoot utilizing our DSLR Core Package and Atlas 30 DSLR Camera Slider. It’s not a slider heavy video, but when there is a slide it’s effective. Baseball fans (especially Giant’s fans) will get a kick out of this for sure.
Here’s a few BTS pics as well, using the Core Package and our Atlas 30.
For this piece Vinny used the following gear:
Camera: Canon 5D Mk II
Lenses: 70-200mm f2.8 L-series, 50mm L-Series, and 16-35mm Canon
Gear:
Atlas 30 DSLR Camera Slider
DSLR Core Package
Glidecam 2000hd

i dont see any racecars
oh now i see it. i was linked wrong lol
Not yet! lol. We’ll be adding another video and BTS pics later :p
Awesome!
Do you have any other “close ups” of how the Atlas 30 is mounted to the two tripods? Are there Cinevate accessories that I need for that?
thanks
Hey Clint,
No close-ups from that shoot, but I just took a few quick and dirty iphone pics for ya:
ow.ly/i/gChT – The Atlas 30 end block with plate, bare
ow.ly/i/gCi0 – Atlas 30 end block with quick release plate screwed in
ow.ly/i/gCi1 – Mounted to a tripod head. We’ve mounted directly to a tripod with a 100mm ball as well, don’t need 2 heads
Hope that helps!
Hmm…guess you’ll have to copy/paste those ow.ly links :p
Also tweeted you the links
Says that Vinny used the 70-200 for this piece – is that the behind the scenes photos? The actual video definitely had some wide angle lenses…??
Hey Dylan,
That was my bad, I left out a couple of lenses in the gear list. The post is updated with the additional lenses :p
Martell (aka “Matt”) Straus is the best young director in the Bay. Incredible.
Vinny Minton’s the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
