Tracking Shots Ep.17 – A Loaded Western

NAB is still making its way into our posts even 2 weeks after the fact. In this case it’s because we finally got to meet Tracking Shots regular, Adam Colton. He was easy to spot from the longboard in his hand and the big grin on his face. Adam almost immediately (and enthusiastically) told us about a Western he was nearly finished in which he was finally able to cross into a fictional/narrative mode as well as showcasing the Loaded Board product. Like Adam when we met him, we all had grins as we watched the video which mixes longboarding with classic western motifs. I think you’ll find it as refreshing and light hearted as we did :p

Adam shared his thoughts on tapping into a different creative outlet than he has been able to in the past; “I had fun letting the inner filmmaker out and it was refreshing. Focusing more on shooting a mini movie with a story / narration. Tis good for me to mix it up now and then and challenge myself. I hope you all can appreciate this for the story, filming/editing, if not then try watching it with your eyes closed, hahah and visualize gnarly 100mph slides. It was a blast to film and I learned a bunch. Yes, we used a revolver that ejects cases, hahaha.”

Western style Rack Focus

Paul Kent, the lead longboarder/actor in the film also shared his thoughts in a blog post; “Adam just got a new Durus Follow focus from Cinevate. It allows for smooth dynamic focus during filming. The most obvious places you can see this effect would be the focus moving off of Danes face and onto his pistol in the early shots of the video.  I’ve been surrounding myself with Photography / Videography lately and I was super stoked to get to practice pulling focus in some of the shots of Dane.”

The boys have some fun setting up the next shot

  1. Hello Cinevate,
I just purchased a few items from you. One item was the cylops. Question… Does the cyclpos have anyway to adjust the eye piece to any eye? Or is it “one size fits all”? Thanks for your response!

    • Luke says:

      Hey Chris,

The eye piece is a fixed size in the ‘one size fits all’ realm, but the optic is so sharp that you don’t actually need to have your eyes placed into the hood, you can still set sharp focus from a few feet back.
      Hope that helps.
