I spotted a tweet from our pals over at NoFilmSchool.com that the Canon 7D update is now available. For video shooters, the big draw is the inclusion of manual audio control. You can read about the updated features below or check out the new video highlighting these features.
It might be long overdue but as a Canon 7D owner with no intention of upgrading cameras anytime soon I think it's a welcome addition. Are you excited or did have you already upgraded to newer camera? Head over to the Canon site to grab the update and let us know what you think.

Canon 7D Firmware Update Revealed
I've seen rumors of a firmware update for the 7D pop up over the past few weeks across various websites, including the always reliable Canonrumors.com. As a 7D shooter I'm genuinely excited that Canon has released all the details. There's a few key features (listed below) but the big one for me is manual audio control. I know it won't improve on the less-than-stellar internal mic, but having a bit of control over my reference audio can't hurt. Canonrumors reports the update will be available in August 2012.
Canon EOS 7D firmware v2 – new features:
- Improved maximum burst for RAW images (up to 25)
- In-camera RAW image editing
- In-camera Image Rating
- In-camera JPEG resizing
- Maximum Auto ISO setting (ISO 400-6400)
- Manual audio level adjustment in movie recording
- GPS compatibility
- File name customisation
- Time zone settings
- Faster scrolling of magnified images
- Quick control screen during playback
