The American Photographic Artists (APA) recently wrapped up their first short film contest with the winners announced at NAB. As a sponsor, Cinevate not only got to set the criteria for our prize’s category but also got to judge and select the winning video. Our task was to select a film that had the Best Production Value. We were truly impressed with the caliber of the films submitted but after narrowing down the list of 81 entries to a few finalists we quickly found a unanimous favorite. Without further ado here is Clark Vandergrift’s winning entry, “The Stars Above.”
The film really struck a chord with us. If you check out Dennis revealing the winner in the APA Winner Announcement video (around the 16:53 mark) he jokes about getting teary-eyed (he’s not actually joking). Having said that, our task was to select the best production value which ‘The Stars Above‘ also had in spades. Clark’s film looked beautiful, had lots of variety in composition and camera movement, and he clearly did plenty of set and art decoration. We felt his choices in all of these aspects were completely deliberate and not just for the sake of looking cool. For Clark’s hard work he wins one of our Atlas 10 Camera Sliders.
You can check out all of the entries at the APA’s Short Film Contest vimeo page and of course the complete list of winning films at the APA National website.Congratulations to all of this year’s winners – can’t wait to see what they come up with next year.
